Is the honeymoon over?????

So we are  three weeks into our new life.

Budgets have been broken, there has been tears (kids and me due to fights over school work), and we've all learnt to sleep in till after 7am.

I guess you could say the honey moon period is almost over. We've found things that do and don't work. We're still working out ways to get the school work done as quickly as possible so the real life education can begin.

We've learnt other lessons too.

Never leave a town with fuel without filling up cause the next town's servo may not be there any more. Yeah yeah I here you say, but we nearly were going to be living in Pooncarie for quite some time until some lovely other travelers were a bit more prepared.

Small country town pubs are awesome on Friday nights. Well we all know that anyway, but seems like we've made some good friends from this stop.

Never refuse an offer for a cuppa or anything else in the tiny country areas. You only get the one offer. And you never know what you will learn in the process.

You can't ignore people out here like you can in the city. You see these people all the time. And they have memories like an elephant. Not that we are rude, but everyone says hello and is up for a chat, even if you are not.

A happy kid is a filthy dirty free range kid. I'll have photos of that later, but suffice to say, Pete and I had a great giggle watching them.  The kids unfortunately did not enjoy the clean up side of it as much.

And no matter where you are or where you come from, Australia is so well travelled these days that you will ALWAYS find someone from your home town  in the most unexpected places.

Oh and the other thing I've learnt this week is that the Jolly Phonics song for "y". If I do not get "I like to eat eat eat yoghurt and bananas" out of my head soon, I swear I'm going to turn into a banana ............

The Seed is planted.

In 2009, I suffered a workplace injury which was a shock to our little family. It left me very unwell and unable to work. For our little family, the next two years were pretty hard on us all. Many aspects of our life had changed due to what had happened to me. But things are looking much better these days.

In 2011, I was discharged from my employment. With that a humongous weight was lifted from my shoulders. But I still felt that where we were living was still impacting significantly on our quality of life. Pete was also feeling a little stale and despondent in his job, and in our town. We were both feeling the need to be closer to family, the majority of which were over 1000kms away. As parents, we decided that we would move our little people and leave our home of ten years. We were happy and sad, and excited and overwhelmed all at once. Our not so little home had blossomed over the years, with the additions of our two little people, but also with the major renovations we had done. We struggled for many years with a semi functional house. But with a plan to leave spurred us into action, and the finishing touches began.

As we began to make plans and enquiries as to where we would go and live, there was this little idea sinking into our heads. It was something we had longed dreamed of but never thought it would be possible..........

Let's travel around Australia as a family, with no real plans, just going with the flow.

And so the seed was planted and it too blossomed. Now it's a fully fledged plant, and you get to see where we spread our branches too, and get a bit of an insight into parts of Australia and life many people never get to see.
